THE ATELIER & THE CRAFT
Every piece is designed, forged and finished by myself, Isabelle B., in my atelier in southern Portugal. Honu Handmade Jewellery is a personal project: there is no delegated production, no subcontracting. To discover my journey and approach, read my designer portrait.
I design and forge every piece in my atelier in southern Portugal, near Setúbal. That is where each piece comes to life, from the initial sketch to the final écrin. More about the atelier.
Yes. Every piece is forged, shaped, soldered, polished and finished entirely by hand at the bench. I use no moulds and no serial production. This is what justifies the time invested in each piece (several days to several weeks depending on complexity) and its singular character. Discover my craftsmanship.
No. No piece is moulded or duplicated identically. Each creation is unique. Some designs can however be recreated to order: the recreated version will naturally show slight variations from the original — the signature of work by hand. Request a recreation via the contact form.
Yes — two paths are possible. Personalisation of an existing Honu concept. Two pieces from the Exceptional Pieces collection are designed to be personalised directly from the site: the Victoria Necklace and the Eugénie Necklace. You choose the Tahitian pearl and the centrepiece motif in solid silver; I then forge the piece to order by hand. Fully bespoke creation. For a piece imagined for you — from an idea, a sketch or a stone you already own — write to me via the Custom Order Request page. We discuss your project and I send you a detailed quote within 48 hours.
Not for the moment. All pieces are sold exclusively online on this site. If you would like to see a piece in hand before ordering, I can send additional photos or video on request, via the contact form.
Not as part of a regular commercial service. However, if a Honu piece you own needs intervention (loose pearl, clasp, resizing), write to me with a photo and I will tell you whether I can intervene and on what terms. Defects covered by the legal warranty follow a separate process described on the Legal Guarantees page.
Yes. The site is available in French (primary language) and English. You can switch between the two versions using the language selector in the footer.
MATERIALS, QUALITY & AUTHENTICITY
My creations are composed of solid silver, paired with genuine Tahitian pearls or, occasionally, fine and precious stones. The legal hallmark recognised in Europe for silver in jewellery is 925: this is the hallmark stamped on every one of my pieces. Some creations actually contain 950 solid silver (a higher purity), which is hallmarked under the same legal title 925 in accordance with European regulations. Details of the materials used appear on each product page and on the My Materials page.
My Tahitian pearls come directly from a partner pearl farm in French Polynesia. They are cultivated respecting the natural cycles of the Pinctada margaritifera oyster and sorted on strict criteria of lustre, shape and surface. Every purchase of a piece containing a Tahitian pearl comes with a traceability document.
Every piece containing a Tahitian pearl or a precious stone ships with a Honu traceability document. It specifies the pearl's origin, its characteristics (size, quality, shape) and the nature of the metal used. See the document in detail.
You can measure your ring or wrist size yourself using the size guide on the site. The guide explains two simple methods: using a ring you already own, or with a tape measure. If in doubt, write to me with your measurement and I will guide you.
Because every piece is unique and worked by hand without a mould. Once the ring or bracelet is finished, the size is fixed. That particular piece will not be reproduced identically in another size. If the size offered does not match yours, see the next question.
It depends on the design. Some pieces can be recreated to order in your size, with the slight variations inherent to handwork. Others remain strictly unique and are not reproduced. Contact me with the design name and your size; I will tell you about feasibility and timeline.
Solid silver calls for simple but regular care: avoid contact with chlorinated water, perfumes and household products; store pieces separately in a soft écrin; polish occasionally with a suitable cloth. For pieces set with Tahitian pearls, the precautions are more specific (a living pearl, sensitive to shocks and cosmetic products). Detailed guides and care advice by piece type are published regularly in the Honu Magazine — Care tag.
ORDER, PAYMENT & SHIPPING
Accepted payments: credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express where available), PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Multibanco (Portugal only) and Klarna — pay in 3 interest-free instalments (subject to eligibility, see next question). All transactions are encrypted via Shopify Payments. Prices are displayed in euros and Portuguese VAT is included for orders shipped within the European Union.
Yes, via Klarna, available at checkout. The 3-instalment plan is interest-free (0% APR, duration under 90 days), subject to eligibility validated in real time by Klarna Bank AB (publ) at checkout. Klarna is an independent payment provider, separate from Honu Handmade Jewellery; the processing of your data by Klarna is described in the Privacy Policy. Full terms are set out in the Terms and Conditions, section 4.
As soon as payment is validated, you receive a confirmation email with the full order details. If you don't find it in your inbox after a few minutes, check the spam folder. You can also see the summary in your Customer Account. If nothing appears, write to me and we will check together.
On dispatch, you receive a second email with a real-time tracking link. You can also follow your order from your Customer Account. The time between payment validation and dispatch depends on the piece ordered (in stock vs. piece to be finished).
As long as your order has not yet been dispatched, yes: contact me without delay with your order number and the change requested. Once the order has been dispatched, modification or cancellation is no longer possible, but you retain your 14-day right of withdrawal from the date of receipt.
If the order has not yet been dispatched, write to me immediately with the correct address and your order number. I will rectify before handing over to the carrier. If the parcel is already on its way, contact the carrier directly with your tracking number: depending on the stage of routing, an address change may still be possible.
Shipping rates and lead times vary by destination country, chosen shipping method and product. The exact amount is shown at checkout before payment. Full details of zones, carriers and lead times are on the Shipping & Returns page.
Three cases. (1) Parcel stuck or delayed: contact the carrier first with your tracking number. (2) Parcel marked as delivered but not received: check with your neighbourhood or pick-up point; if nothing, write to me promptly. (3) Parcel arrived damaged: send me a photo on receipt via the contact form and I will open a case with the carrier. In every case, report the issue as soon as possible to preserve avenues of recourse.
If your parcel returns to the atelier (wrong address, repeated absences, refusal), write to me with your order number and your name. We will agree on a new dispatch. Depending on carrier terms, a re-shipping fee may apply; it will be communicated to you before any charge.
RETURNS, WITHDRAWAL, WARRANTY & PRIVACY
If the piece delivered does not match your order, I take full responsibility. Write to me with your name, your order number and a photo of the piece received. I will offer an exchange, return shipping at my cost. The precise return terms (packaging, insurance, carrier) are set out in the Terms and Conditions.
All my pieces benefit from a legal conformity warranty of 3 years from the date of delivery, in accordance with Portuguese Decree-Law No. 84/2021, European Directive (EU) 2019/771 and the Portuguese Civil Code. During the first two years, any defect is presumed to have existed at the time of delivery. In the third year, the burden of proof falls on the customer. Each repair extends the warranty by six months (cap of four repairs). Full details and procedure on the Legal Guarantees page.
In accordance with Directive 2011/83/EU (transposed in Portugal by DL 24/2014 and in France by articles L221-18 et seq. of the Consumer Code), you have 14 calendar days from receipt of your order to withdraw without having to give a reason, except for legal exceptions: (1) personalised or made-to-order pieces (article L.221-28 3° of the French Consumer Code), (2) earrings and parures including earrings as soon as the sealed packaging has been opened, on hygiene grounds (article L.221-28 4°). To exercise this right, write to me before the deadline with your order number and your intention to withdraw. Full procedure, model form and exceptions on the Returns & Exchanges Policy page.
