Article: How to determine your ring size?

How to determine your ring size?
To measure your ring size remotely, use a printable ring sizer or measure a ring that already fits, then check the millimetre conversion. Measure preferably at the end of the day, when the finger is slightly wider, to avoid choosing a size that is too tight.
How do you measure your finger size to choose the right ring?
Would you like to know your ring size? Whether you’re treating yourself to a handcrafted piece or choosing the perfect gift, knowing your ring size is essential.
A well-fitting ring should stay in place without being too tight, whilst sliding easily over the knuckle. If it’s too tight, it becomes uncomfortable. If it’s too loose, it risks slipping off and getting lost.
Here I provide a size chart, a free printable tool and three tips to help you determine your ring size as accurately as possible.

Ring size chart
This ring size chart allows you to see the equivalents between French, European, British and American standards.
Once you have taken your measurement (in mm, either circumference or diameter), look it up in the chart to find your international size.

Free Printable Measuring Tool
I’ve created this exclusive finger measurement tool to help you identify your size accurately, right from the comfort of your own home.
How to use the tool?
1. Download and print the tool
Download the free Honu ring sizer
Important: Make sure you print in 100% mode (actual size) to ensure the scale is correct.
2. Follow the instructions on the tool
Place a ring you already wear on the circles on the tool to identify the corresponding diameter. If you are unsure between two sizes, choose the larger one.
3. Check the size chart
Compare the diameter obtained with the size chart to find your European and international ring size.
3 Ways to Measure Your Finger Circumference
Method 1: Using a ribbon or strip of paper
Wrap a flexible ribbon (or the strip provided on the printable tool) around your finger. Mark where the ends meet. Measure the length and refer to the chart.
Method 2: Using an existing ring
Place a ring you already wear (on the same finger!) on the printable tool. Identify the circle corresponding to the inside diameter.
Method 3: At a Jewellery shop
A jeweller will have a professional ring sizer. If you prefer an ultra-precise measurement, this is the most reliable method.
The best time to measure your finger
The size of your fingers varies throughout the day:
- In the morning or in cold weather: fingers are slimmer
- During the day or in warm weather: fingers are slightly swollen
The best time? At the end of the day, when your hand is at its most natural size. For greater accuracy, take the measurement several times.
If your knuckle is wider than the base of your finger, measure both and choose a size in between.
My ring is too big or too small: What should I do?
Ring too big
Three solutions:
- Ring adjuster: an invisible ring that reduces the inner diameter
- Alteration by a jeweller: resizing by a professional
- Bespoke creation: let’s create your design in the right size
Ring too small
A solid silver ring can be enlarged by a professional jeweller, within certain limits. For Honu designs, please contact me: depending on the model, an adjustment may be possible.
Giving a ring as a secret gift: The Tip
